Liz's Story

I have been with my partner for a couple of years now. I have two boys 3 and 6, my partner has one son aged 4. We are fine most of the time but we bring our boys up completely differently!

When I first found out I was pregnant I was so nervous because I knew more about cars than I did babies. So when my boys came along I brought them up with a bit of rough and tumble, where as my step son was and still is wrapped up in cotton wool.

Now we all live together and we started off fine but now I'm finding it really difficult as my step son doesn't really listen to me. I don't treat them any differently but considering I taught my step son how to eat with a knife and fork, manners, I got him out of nappies because his parents couldn't be bothered, this poor boy couldn't even talk properly because his parents never taught him how to open his mouth.

Bearing in mind he is quiet and reserved but I think he is like that because nobody has given him any support in anything that he does. For example he didn't know how to jump until a few weeks ago.

Now I feel totally useless because he just doesn't listen and when myself or his father ask him why did you do that or why did you have a little fit? all we get is I don't know. I feel like working full time just to get out of the house but then that's not fair on my boys. I really feel like saying I give up with him, just let his father and mother sort him out. But I know they won't and I can't turn a blind eye because then he won't get any proper upbringing.
